The business

The St. Eustatius Health Care Foundation runs health care on Statia. The clinic, emergency care, the ambulance, the visiting specialists who fly in: on an island of a few thousand people they are not one option among several, they are the option.

They had just been through a rebrand and came to us to bring the website in line with it. What they asked for was easy to say and harder to do: modern, easy to find your way around, and trustworthy at a glance.

The problem

A health care website is read by people who are worried. Someone wants to know whether to see a doctor, when the clinic opens, where to go in an emergency. If those answers take more than a moment to find, the site has failed at the only job it really has.

The foundation had just changed how it looked and how it spoke, and the website still belonged to the version before. Lining the two up was never going to be a paint job. It meant deciding what the site should lead with, so the new look had something worth reading underneath it.

The solution

We rebuilt the site around the handful of things people actually arrive looking for, and put them on the front page as plain choices: should I see a doctor, opening hours, the complaint and suggestion forms, and the care and medical services. No menu to hunt through, no scrolling to find a phone number.

Behind those, every service the foundation offers has its own card and its own short explanation, from emergency care and the ambulance to midwifery, physiotherapy, radiology and the visiting specialists. It is built for a phone first, because on Statia the phone is the computer.

  • A website rebuilt around the new brand
  • Four quick routes on the homepage: see a doctor, opening hours, forms, services
  • A card and a plain-language explanation for every medical service
  • Complaint and suggestion forms, filled in online
  • Mobile-first layout, built for the device people actually hold
